A great cocktail to sip during your holiday celebrations. What's better than a classic White Russian? Try this recipe, with a bit stronger base, topped with cold brew coffee and frothed cream. The cold brew both lightens and flavors the drink beautifully.
Here's the basic recipe and technique, and a few easy variations.
Yield: One tall, strong cocktail
INGREDIENTS:
2 ounces vodka
2 ounces coffee flavored liqueur
Cold brew coffee, divided in two; 1 ounce for shaker, and 3-4 ounces to top the cocktail
1.5 ounces of frothed cream (froth with a frothing whisk, or shake cream vigorously in a container to aerate)
dash of espresso powder or dark cocoa powder
Fill a cocktail shaker with crushed ice. Add in vodka, coffee liqueur, and one ounce of cold brew coffee. Shake well for 20-30 seconds. Pour into a highball glass filled with crushed ice. Top with the remaining 3-4 ounces of cold brew coffee, then slowly add the frothed cream. Sprinkle with espresso or cocoa powder.
Cold Brew Black Russian - skip the frothed cream
Cold Brew Nutty Blonde Russian - Prepare drink in exact same manner, however substitute a nut flavored liqueur, such as Rivulet pecan, for the coffee liqueur. Or mix it up and do half nut liqueur and half coffee liqueur. Many liqueurs pair well with coffee, so have fun playing with the base recipe.
